Friedrich Froebel

Friedrich Froebel (1782 – 1852) was a German educator and founder of the kindergarten system who greatly influenced the development of modern education. His educational philosophy was based on his observations of children and nature and centred around the idea of play-based learning and the power of imagination. To help children explore and develop their creativity, Froebel created a system of learning materials, including building blocks, puzzles and paper folding activities. He also developed the concept of ‘Gestalt’, the idea that a whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Froebel believed that learning should be fun and that children should be allowed to learn at their own pace. He also believed that education should be holistic and should include physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development. His approach to education has been highly influential in the development of modern education and is still seen in many educational systems today.

His teachings have had a long-lasting influence on the work of educators in early childhood education, and they still hold relevance today.
